from N-31 to I-680 Project # STPD-36-7(113) Control # 22172 Project Contacts:
Proposed Construction: The Department is studying improvements to Highway 36 (N-36) between Highway 31 (N-31) and U.S. Highway 75 (U.S. 75). The study is considering expansion of N-36 to a four-lane highway along the existing alignment and construction of an interchange at the N-36 intersection with Highway 133 (N-133). The existing 2-lane highway would be rebuilt and widened to a 4-lane divided highway on the existing alignment between Nebraska Highway 31 (N-31) and Interstate 680 (I-680). The existing four lane section from I-680 to U.S. 75 would be used in place with no major improvements. Highway improvements would also include adjusting the grade of the highway by cutting down hills and filling in valleys to improve sight distance along the highway and providing flatter side slopes adjacent to the driving lanes. From N-31 east to approximately 168th Street the additional lanes would be constructed on the south side of the existing centerline; from 156th Street to 72nd Street the additional lanes would be constructed on the north side of the existing centerline (the lanes would transition from south to north between 168th Street and 156th Street); and east of 72nd Street the improvements would be centered on the existing centerline. Lighting/Signals/Signing: Additional traffic signals may be installed at several locations along the project, depending on future traffic volumes. Right-of-Way: Acquisition of property for highway right-of-way will be required throughout the length of the project. Control of access to the highway will also be acquired. The Department plans to file Corridor Protection after completion of the Location Study. Phasing: Highway 36 will remain open to traffic during construction of the project. Temporary roads around work zones may be used during some phases of construction. Schedule: The project is currently included in the Department's "2012 and Beyond" program, which means that the project is not likely to be constructed until 2012 or later. The project schedule will depend on the availability of funding. |
