| Morrill-Box Butte County Line South Project Contacts: Toby Fierstein, NDOR Project Engineer, 402.479.4545
Proposed Construction: The proposed project is part of the Heartland Expressway. The project will consist of constructing a section of four-lane divided rural highway. This section starts 4.7 miles northeast of Angora and runs 9.8 miles to the Box Butte/Morrill County Line. New construction includes two additional lanes west of the existing roadway for southbound traffic. The two lanes currently used in this section of US-385 will be resurfaced for northbound traffic. Resurfacing of the existing 4.7 miles of two-lane US-385 from Angora northeast to the four lane section will also be included with this project. Related Studies: An Economic and Engineering Feasibility Study was completed in 1993. Right of Way: Major right-of-way acquisitions affecting most tracts are anticipated for the addition of the new lanes. One residence will be acquired and one residence and one business may be impacted, at the Box Butte/Morrill County line. Relocation Assistance will be provided. Phasing: Construction of the two new lanes will take place first. After their completion, traffic will be shifted to them and resurfacing of the two existing lanes will take place. Schedule: The project is currently planned to be let in July of 2010. Construction will take two years. Cost: The estimated cost of the project is 24.5 million dollars (2008 dollars).
