Road milling and asphalt overlay work in the fifth and seventh segments starts Wednesday, July 5th. Segments 5 and 7 start at Van Dorn St and end at 33rd St.

Highway 2, from Van Dorn St. to 40th St., will be closed to traffic between the hours of 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. 

  • Intersections with Hwy 2, between Van Dorn and 33rd St., may be closed between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. This includes the the following intersections:

    • High St.
    • Robbers Cave Rd
    • Arapahoe
    • Calvert
    • W Pioneers
    • 13th St.
    • 14th St.
    • Brower
    • 20th St.
    • Southwood
    • 27th St.
    • E Pioneers

  • Segments 5 and 7 Local Detour Route

  • Highway 2 Main Detour Route

Single lane closures can be expected between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on weekdays. On weekends single lane closures can be expected between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

All lanes will be open from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and in the afternoon from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (Monday thru Friday).

Travelers are advised to use the main detour route where possible. Local traffic should follow the posted local detour route to avoid delays.

Pavement patching work in segments 1, 2, 3 and 4 is complete. 


Monday, June 5
-  A temporary signal has been installed at the intersection of 14th and Hwy 2 as the Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Railway replaces and modifies the crossing pads just south of the intersection. Southbound traffic on 14th Street will be re-routed to South 27th Street during this closure.

Following the BNSF work, the City will begin work to widen the single right-turn lane from Highway 2 to South 14th Street into two lanes. The project also includes traffic signal improvements and work on the medians on both the north and south sides of the intersection. All work will be done during non-peak traffic hours, and the widening is expected to be completed by late July.

How Will This Affect Your Travel? 

  • Through traffic: Detour will use I-80, US-6, and 84th Street.

     

  • Local traffic:

  • All lanes will be open M - F, from 6am - 9am and 3pm - 6pm. Some turn lanes may have restrictions.

  • M - F from 9am. - 3pm., and Sat - Sun from 6am - 6pm, single lane closures can be expected.

  • Seven Days a Week, Between 6pm and 6am, depending on the segment being worked on...total closures will be necessary to accomplish the work. Always check the Current Delays Box above for details.

General Project Info

The Nebraska Department of Roads in conjunction with the City of Lincoln, will be working on a highway improvement project on Highway 2 in Lincoln.

This project is located in Lancaster County on Nebraska Highway 2, as it passes through South Lincoln. It will run from Van Dorn Street to 59th Street on Highway 2. This project will be built in conjunction with the City of Lincoln Project STPP-5221(2), 14th and Highway 2.

The project will consist of repairing the existing pavement and curbs, adding and extending some turn lanes, upgrading guardrail, and milling and resurfacing the highway. It will extend the life and improve the ride of this segment of Nebraska Highway 2 and will provide additional turn lanes to improve traffic flow.

This project will also include extending a turn lane and adding a lane for southbound traffic at 14th and Old Cheney.

Schedule

Construction is scheduled to start June 5th, 2006, by City of Lincoln. NDOR work will begin around June 19th and will continue for about 90 days.
