Proposed Construction:

This project will rebuild a portion of Nebraska Highway N-14, in Nance County which begins about 1/2 mile south of the Loup River and ends about 1/2 mile north of the river.  The project will realign N-14 to the east and includes replacing/relocating the Loup River Bridge (approx. 84' east/downstream), replacing the box culvert (overflow structure) located about 1/3 mile south of the Loup River with a 50’ long bridge, wider surfacing/shoulders, and flatter sideslopes.

Lighting/Signals:

No changes or additions are anticipated.

Related Studies:

An Alignment Alternative Analysis was conducted to compare building on existing alignment, shifting west or shifting east.  Shifting east/downstream was chosen as the preferred alternative, which avoids negative impacts on the residence and businesses when shifting west, as well as construction and traffic issues of building on existing alignment.

Right of Way:

Acquisition of property for highway right-of-way will be required throughout the length of the project.  Temporary easements will be required for temporary roads.

Phasing:

The project will be built under traffic.  Temporary roads around work zones will be used during some phases of construction.  Access to the county roads located immediately north and south of the Loup River from Hwy. N-14 will be closed provisionally during construction.

Schedule:

Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2010 and may take two construction seasons to complete (subject to availability of funds).

Cost:

Approximately $8,600,000  (present day dollars)
