Proposed Construction: The construction would involve realigning the intersection of Highway 81 and Monroe Avenue in Norfolk, to improve truck movement and accommodate other safety improvements. The Intersection would be reconstructed on a new alignment just south of the existing intersection. Remnants of the old intersection would be removed.
Lighting/Signals/Signing: Traffic signals will be installed and overhead lighting will be adjusted accordingly.
Right of Way: Additional right-of-way must be acquired for construction of the new intersection.
Phasing: Construction would be done under traffic on Highway 81. Temporary detour of local routes may be required, as coordinated with the City of Norfolk.
Schedule: Current schedule is for construction to begin in Spring/Summer of 2009, and take approximately 2 months.
Estimated Cost: $990,000.00 in current dollars.
